Meta Surfaces and MaterialsΒΆ

Optical meta surfaces describe arrangements of (sub-)wavelength sized scatterers on a substrate that allows for a tailored interaction of an incident wavefront. By locally altering the phase and amplitude of the wavefront one can build flat optical components such as meta-lenses or polarizers. The working principle is typically connected to exploiting one or more resonances of a meta-atom, the small scattering structure forming the interface. A variation of the geometrical parameters of the scatterers influences the resonances and thus can have strong effects on the functionality.
