When computing resonances in open system, the determined eigenfrequencies become complex, modelling the temporal decay/lifetime of resonance modes.
It is known in mathematical theory that the corresponding eigenmodes thereby become exponential increasing in the exterior. These exponential increasing resonances can however still be used as a basis on any sub domain of finite size to decompose a field.
Constant flux modes are a concept to circumvent computation of exponentially increasing modes. Thereby a possibly real frequency Omega is assigned to the field in the exterior domain.
